It was a joyful day for the worshippers at St. Peter’s Catholic Station of Works Layout Blessed Tansi Parish, Ugwuorji Owerri on Sunday, November 30, 2014 as they marked their harvest of prosperity in a grand style.
Preaching the homily at the harvest Mass, the Curate, Rev. Fr. Sunny B.C. Uchegbu described Advent as a time of waiting for the coming of Jesus Christ.
The homilist harped on the need for Christians to watch, wait and pray so as not to be caught unawares by the arrival of Christ. He called on them not to allow the pleasures of the world to hinder them from the love of Christ.
Fr. Uchegbu stressed that giving bountifully, especially to God is a top secret of staying out of poverty and advised Christians to learn how to give without murmuring.
Speaking during the reception that followed, the Chairman of the Harvest Planning Committee, Barr. Emma Osuji described his happiness as unquantifiable, as the harvest was a success.
Barr. Osuji appreciated the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Owerri Branch, Barr. Stanley Chidozie Imo and his entourage for gracing the occasion, describing their presence as evidence that lawyers are very keen in contributing their quota to the spread of the gospel.
The Harvest Committee Chairman reiterated the church’s need to acquire a permanent site for worship so as to attain the status of a parish and expressed optimism that their prayers would be answered soon.
He thanked the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Ben Oparaugo and his Assistant, Rev. Fr. Sunny Uchegbu for their relentless efforts towards the growth of the station. He also described the Station Council Chairman, Dr. Chima Nwosu as a devoted Catholic, who cannot trade the well-being of the church for anything.
Barr. Osuji commended all the harvest committee members, especially the welfare Chairman, Mrs. Maureen Oparaji and her team for a work well done.
Speaking to The Leader, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Owerri Branch, Barr. Stanley Chidozie Imo described the chairman of the Harvest Committee as his good friend, noting that they came to support the church as they have always done.
The highlight of the ceremony was the birthday celebration of Mr. Stanley Chigaekwu Akano popularly known as ‘Ezeumuokorobia’, which was organized by the congregation in appreciation of his numerous supports to the growth of the station.
Speaking to The Leader also, Mr. Akano appreciated the people for the birthday surprise package describing it as an action that spurred him to do more for God and referred to the house of God as the only place one can invest without regrets.
