The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Friday urged the public to ignore Radio Biafra, saying the station has been broadcasting seditious contents illegally.
In a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs of the commission, Alhaji Awwalu Salihu, the NBC said it had become aware of a pirate radio station transmitting seditious and divisive content contrary to the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and Law.
It assured the public that it was working in conjunction with security forces to track the source of the broadcast. It urged the public to ignore the inflammatory content of the broadcast and continue to work toward a strong, united and prosperous nation.
Meanwhile, the Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that Radio Biafra “doesn’t have the backing of the South East, any leader of the South East or any Igbo man.”
Governor Rochas Okorocha who made the assertion while interacting with Sahara Reporters, insisted that Biafran Radio “doesn’t have the backing of the South East, any leader of the South East or any Igbo man.” He added that “you cannot say who actually is behind this or where is this radio station. The radio station is not in Imo State. The [Biafra] War is gone and gone.”
Governor Okorocha said that outsiders were the cause of the recent social media and radio campaigns calling for separatism. He said “I cannot say all here, but know that it is not the backing of the South East trying to create tension and relevance, just like they have gotten the attention now.” The Governor spoke even more critically about the Biafran struggle as “like a mirage, the more you look, the less you see.”
