Bishop Anagbe ordains two Claretian priests, eight deacons in Owerri

It was jubilation galore at St. Anthony Mary Claret Parish Estate New Owerri as friends and relations besieged the Claret Chapel to witness the ordination of two Claretian priests and 8 Claretian Deacons and one Deacon from the Congregation of the two  hearts of love on Saturday 4 July.

The Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, Most Rev. Wilfred Anagbe Cmf ordained the candidates.

In his sermon, Bishop Anagbe reminded the candidates that this ordination makes them Christlike and people expect you to be Chrsitlike in anything you do. “You are no longer yourself, you are now acting in persona Christ” said Bishop Anagba.

The Prelate underscored the importance of discipline and obedience in the life of a priest saying that once you become a priest, your whole freedom and will, will be handed over to somebody whom you may like or not.

The Prelate noted that some people are attracted to the glamour of priests, but according to him the glamour of priests make up just 3 percent of who the y are.

Every Catholic priest has to understand the incomparable dignity of priesthood you have to know who you are, you have to understand that you are Christlike and you can bring Christ down when celebrating the Mass.

He warned the candidates to be mindful of politicians who want to use them to achieve their aims, he warned them not to fall for their antics.

The Prelate advised parents to stop forcing their children or wards to join the seminary, saying that it is only God that calls priests and it depends on the individual to respond positively or negatively, the least you can do for them is to encourage and support them and not deciding for them.

The Provincial Superior Southern Province, Rev. Fr. Simeon Nwobi Cmf before the Mass welcomed everybody and also thanked the Bishop for generously accepting to officiate at the ordination, he noted that this is Bishop Anagbe’s first  ordination since his consecration as a Bishop, he thanked the candidates families for allowing them answer God’s call without hindrance.
