The Nigeria Bar Association Orlu Branch has held its Elections for officers to run the affairs of the Association for the next two years at the High court complex Okporo, Orlu, attended by about a hundred lawyers.
The Election was conducted by Elder O.A.U Eleke as chairman, with Barr J.O Oduoma as secretary and Chief RC Ogu, an eminent Advocate, as the “Leader” of the Orlu Branch and main Advisor.
At the end of the elections, the results were announced and the following elected as officers of the Bar:
Mr. C.A Ikwuoma emerged Chairman, Mrs. FN Ojinka of the DPP office emerged the secretary. Also elected were Mrs. F Okolie, as Vice Chairman, Echendu Fidelia as Welfare secretary, Mrs., Nkeiru Grace Nwosu as Treasurer, Mr. Chidi Nwodi was elected publicity/ secretary, Mr. Oge Ezonye as financial secretary with Mr. G.S Awuma as the Assistant Financial secretary; The Assistant secretary elect was Mr.P.E Ogboatu.
The leader of the Bar Chief R.C Ogu called on the newly elected officers to promote service and sacrifice in the discharge of their duties whilst Mr. Vin onyeka, an eminent lawyer in the state from the branch called on members to pay their dues as at when due.
In his remark Barrister paschal Nwosu, a lawyer, writer and social commentator/analyst who observed the event opined to The Leader that the election was credible, free and fair with appropriate sensitivity to the need for gender balance in the election of officers.
Barrister Nwosu, called on the Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Anayo Okorocha to build a secretariat for the Association in Orlu to facilitate service delivery to the members of the Bar as he did for the Owerri Bar in the spirit of parity. Also present at the event were Chief KTN Nwanegbo, Barr Mrs. Ijeoma Igboaunsi, , Barr. B.E, OKenmili , and Barr. Ugochukwu Asoegwu amongst others.
Earlier in the event the outgoing chairman, Sir C.O.N Anyiam, gave his valedictory speech and called for greater solidarity at the Bar regretting the delay in the conduct of the elections as earlier scheduled due to a member’s death.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, of the Orlu Bar, Barr. Ikwuoma thanked the members for their support and pledged to discharge his duties well and ensure the construction of a secretariat for the Association during his tenure.
