The speculation that President Muhammadu Buhari will appoint Igboman Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) did not hold after-all as the President has named, Engr. Babachir David Lawal, from Adamawa State as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
Before this appointment, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Senator Chris Ngige, top APC members, were widely tipped for the plum job. The speculation became even more rife as the post of SGF was said to have been zoned to the South-East.
A Press Release issued on Thursday, August 27 by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, named other appointments as follows: Abba Kyari –Chief of Staff to the President, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd.) – Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service, Kure Martin Abeshi, Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service, Senator Ita S.J. Enang – SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) and Hon. Suleiman A. Kawu – SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives).
The appointments are with immediate effect (August 27, 2015.)
Reacting to the appointments, Barr. Uche Ohia, an Owerri based legal practitioner said President Buhari has confounded and proved political bookmakers, including even his own apologists wrong in his choice of individuals to work in various critical positions attached to his office.
Barr Ohia, in the reaction posted on his facebook page said, “Once again, the appointments seem deliberately skewed to exclude the South-East Zone.”
