Christian Fathers have been counseled to be proud in taking up their fatherly responsibilities for their children.
The Parish Priest, Blessed Tansi Catholic Church, Ugwu Orji, Rev. Fr. Dr. Benedict Oparaugo said this while preaching a homily during the 2016 Father’s Day Celebration held in the Parish.
Fr. Oparaugo admonished fathers to accept God-given children in good faith and appreciate the gift of procreation given them.
The Priest however charged them to drop those cultures and traditions that deter them from living a full Christian life.
While condemning the belief in Osu, Diala and Ume caste system, especially among Christian fathers when it comes to marriage of their children, the homilist enjoined them to live exemplary life styles that would portray them as children of God.
In the reception that followed the Holy Mass, the Parish CMO President, Sir Clifford Nwagu commended Rev. Fr. Oparaugo for his efforts at moving the Parish forward..
Sir Nwagu called on the parishioners to support Christian Fathers in their bid to build a central parish church door and to improve the outlook of the church, which he said are projects in the CMO 2016 budget.
Highlights of the occasion were: a special song dedicated to the fathers by the Choir and the issuance of various Awards to some parishioners.
The awardees include: Hon. Kelechi Onuoha, Mr. Leo Anuforo and Mr. Ferdinand Mbonu, who received the award of “Worthy Father in Christ”.
Mrs. Violet Otika was honoured with “CMO Mother of the Year” Award while Lady Ngozi Nwagwu bagged the “CMO Matron of the Year Award”.
Others include: Mr. Chibuzo Okorie, Mrs. Judith Onyeuna, Miss Kelechi Nwachukwu, Ngozi Nwachukwu, Perpetua Nwachukwu, Chidinma Nwachukwu and Emmanuel Ugo Nwachukwu who were commended for the melodious songs they contribute during Liturgical celebrations.
Appreciating the Christian Fathers for the Award, Hon. Kelechi Onuoha showered praises on God for his graces upon his life, and advised the men to always follow the steps of Christ, who is their leader.
Lady Ngozi Maduforo Nwagwu who bagged the CMO Matron of the Year Award, said the award was well deserved as she has often identified with the activities of the CMO.
In a Novelty Football Match played the previous day, the Christian Fathers were defeated by their female counterparts, (members of the CWO) by a 2-1 score. The scores were however calculated based on the peculiar technicalities of the Blessed Tansi Parish.
