Nigerian Eye newspaper, established in Ghana seven years ago, partners with Civic societies to organise a public lecture on Imo at 40. The lecture holds on 18th of June 2016 at New Concorde Hotel Owerri. The occasion will feature technocrats, educationists, captains of industries, civil society leaders, and opinion molders. They will brainstorm on ways of strengthening Nigeria’s future.
The lecture is coming as Imo and Anambra States commemorate their 40th anniversary. This commemorative lecture in Imo which reflects on what the future holds for Nigeria as a united nation regardless of its regional tensions, like Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, Niger -Delta militancy in the South-South and Biafra agitations in the South east, ”the organizers said in a Press Release.
The Release said, Prof. Pat Utomi, Chidi Osuagwu, Prof. Phillip Anyaehie, Prof.B.E.B Nwoke, Dr Mc Ginger Ibeneme among others, are expected, as the major resource persons, to present papers at the confab being put together by Nigerian Eye Newspaper, in collaboration with Leadership Development Foundation for Civic Literacy, GCFN Consult and Society for Advancing literacy and social right .
The lecture on the theme: Analysing the future of socio-political persuasion in today’s Nigeria; the way forward, with Sub topics created from the above theme, is expected to opinions from communities and leaders both within and outside of the south eastern region in a bid to obtain a way forward for Nigeria pull together.
The Executive Governor of Imo His Excellency Anayo Rochas Okorocha as a special guest of honour is expected to give the keynote address on the topic IMO at 40: The Journey so far.
Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha, Chief Mrs Rose Tony Chukwu, Prof.Adaobi Obasi, Deaconess Akudo Okafor, among others are expected for quality representation of the female gender at the event.
50 youths selected from tertiary institutions in the five south eastern states will be present to discuss and state their various positions on the challenges the future leaders are facing in present day Nigeria.
This event will peak with honoring of exceptional individuals and brands that have contributed in the socio-cultural and economic advancement of the South east in the past four decades regardless of their religious or political affiliation.
Dignitaries from selected Igbo Communities in Diaspora have been invited contribute their quota to the socio-political advancement of Imo, South East region and Nigeria at large. .
