KSM holds 3rd, 4th Degree Investiture at Orlu
The Catholic Bishop of Orlu, Most Rev. Augustine Ukwuoma has commended the Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria for their contributions towards the development of church and society.
Bishop Ukwuoma made the commendation while receiving the Supreme Knight and exco members of the Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria when they paid him a courtesy call on Friday August 26.
Bishop Ukwuoma recalled that the Knights of St. Mulumba single handedly built the multi-million naira Chapel at the Catholic owned Veritas University of Nigeria Abuja (VUNA).
The Bishop also told the visiting Supreme Knight that he enjoyed the co-operation of Knights of St. Mulumba in Orlu Diocese.
He however advised the Order to be careful in their recruitment of new members so that wrong characters don’t find their way into the noble Order.
Earlier in his remarks, the Supreme Knight, Chief Anthony Onuh told the Bishop that they were in Orlu Diocese for the Investiture of 3rd and 4th Degree members drawn from the Owerri Metropolitan Council comprising the six dioceses in Owerri Ecclesiastical Province – Owerri, Umuahia, Orlu, Okigwe, Ahiara and Aba.
Chief Onuh enumerated the contributions of the Order in the infrastructural development of the church and donations to charity, including the building of VUNA Chapel and donations to poor parishes.
The Supreme Knight praised the Bishop for the cordial relationship existing between him and his priests. The Supreme Knight was accompanied by the National LSM President, Sis. Pat Ngo-Nwachukwu, KSM Supreme Auditor, Chief Greg Esotu, the Owerri Metro Grand Knight, Prince Eugene Emeakaroha and other Metro executive.
The Investiture ceremony kicked-off the next day, Saturday August 27, at the impressive Holy Trinity Cathedral Orlu.
Welcoming the Knights to the Cathedral, before embarking on Pastoral Visit elsewhere, Bishop Ukwuoma congratulated the investees for their elevation, even as he reminded them that “to whom much is given, much is required”.
In his sermon during the concelebrated Mass, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Sylvester Nnaekezie described Catholic Knights as “good servants because they use God’s blessings to do good work both in the church and society.”
The Administrator observed that the work of Knights and Ladies were evident in various parishes where they work as Chairmen and members of Parish Councils, Presidents of CMO, CWO etc. He also noted that the Knights of St. Mulumba have been vocal in defense of church and protection of church properties.
“The Knights also work in government and communities with commitment, fighting for justice and equitable distribution of resources; assisting the poor and awarding scholarship to the less privileged,” the homilist observed.
Turning to the newly elevated Knights and Ladies, the Administrator reminded them to live up to the expectations of their new ranks, “because all eyes are now on you”.
The Cathedral Administrator was assisted at the Mass by Rev. Fr. Chibuike Okeagu, Bishop’s Secretary, Rev. Fr. Brendan Mgbenwelu, Associate Administrator and Rev. Fr. Kingsley Ogudo of St. Gregory Parish Amaigbo.
The Supreme Knight, Chief Onuh performed the investiture ceremony for the Knights while the Noble President LSM, Dame Pat Ngo Nwachukwu presided over that of the Ladies.
Addressing the investees, among whom were traditional rulers and top government officials, Bro. Onuh urged them to live out their Knighthood as expected by showing more commitment to the Catholic faith and being more charitable to the church, the Order and society.
He praised the organizers for a job well done, describing the “Orlu 2016” as the best organized investiture in recent time.
Also, in her remarks, the LSM Noble President, Sis Ngo Pat Nwachukwu appealed to Brother Knights to assist widowed sisters in their various sub-councils, including bringing them to sub-council meetings and other occasions.
About 207 Knights and Ladies were promoted to 4th Degree while 267 were elevated to 3rd Degree.
The Supreme Knight and Noble President were assisted at the investiture ceremony by the Supreme Auditor, Chief Greg Esotu, the Worthy Metro Grand Knight, Chief Eugene Emeakaroha, the Metro Secretary, Bro. R.O.J. Kenkwo, the Metro Chancellor, Bro. P.O.J. Ihemedu among others. Other metro officers who witnessed the ceremony, were the Metro Advocate, Bro. Emma Amadi, the Metro Financial Secretary, Bro. Simon Anyanwu, the Metro Auditor, Bro. Martin Eberechi and Metro PRO, Bro Emeka Ani.
Also present were LSM Metro officers including the President, Lady Chinedu Brown who was among those elevated to 4th Degree, Lady Pauline Anumnu, Vice President, Lady Bernadine Asawalam, Secretary, among others.
In a vote of thanks during a reception, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Bro. Christopher Okolie expressed gratitude to God for the success of the ceremony and thanked the Supreme Knight, the MGK, other Metro officers and the Investees for their co-operation. He also acknowledged the co-operation of members of the Organizing Committee.
The investiture was preceded by admission of the candidates into their various degrees held at KSM Hall, Wetheral Road Owerri on Friday, 26th August.
