Mothers play crucial roles in Church – Fr Nwachukwu

…As Mrs. Okonkwo bags Star Lady Award


It was a bountiful harvest of sorts as Rev. Prof. Francis Nwachukwu, Parish Priest, St Patrick’s Catholic Church Umuezegwu, Ihitte-Uboma LGA Imo State celebrated  Mass drawing curtain on the 2016 August meeting by the Catholic Women Organization.

Rev. Prof. Francis Nwachukwu was assisted at the Mass by Rev. Fr. Christian Egwuekwe superintending the cutting of a unique cake prepared by Mrs. Josephine Okonkwo, one of the five Women honoured with the Star Lady Award of St. Patrick’s Umuezegwu.

The Leader spoke with Mr. Chika Okonkwo a veteran journalist and husband to Lady Josephine Okonkwo on the salient reasons for the selection of his wife for the Star Lady Awards.

According to him, his wife was selected for the awards because of her selfless philanthropic disposition which has seen her contribute to the welfare of priests, development of the church and support to the less privileged.

He described his wife as his mother, sister and wife. He observed that his wife as a Jewel of inestimable value who has touched lives positively from her humble background.

The Leader spoke to Star Lady Josephine Okonkwo moments after the award on how she felt being singled out for the award. According to her, she has consistently been invited for honors but she declined. However, she felt it is right now to put more effort in the things of God because those who labour in the Lord’s Vineyard will receive abundance of blessings here on earth and in heaven thereafter.

She promised to continue providing succor to the poor, the weak, the oppressed, the less privileged and the physically challenged members of the society in tandem with the divine mercy declaration by His Holiness Pope Francis which is a clarion call to service to God and man.

Star Lady Josephine Okonkwo expressed her profound gratitude to her husband for his support, the C.W.O for recognizing her efforts and the Parish Priest for being a good tool in the hands of the creator.
