KSJI 422, LAUX 350 hold thanksgiving Mass …Source funds to renovate halls
Knights of St. John International (KSJI) Holy Cross Commendary 422 Owerri and their Queen of Heaven Ladies Auxiliary (LAUX) 350, Saturday August 27, 2016 held a thanksgiving Mass for God’s numerous favours. Top on their list of gratitude was the elevation of their members, Sir George Eche and Lady Theresa Chikeka, as the Secretary to the Government of Imo State and Judge of the High Court respectively.
In the Welcome Address signed jointly by the Worthy President, Sir C.C. Nwachukwu and the Respected President, Noble Sr. Anthonia Onuoha, Knights and Ladies equally thanked God for the lives of their retired brothers who make up 85 percent of their membership population and have remained strong despite non-payment of their pensions and gratuities, and prayed for the repose of the departed ones.
The address recalled that since the building of the Grand Hostel, the host commandery KSJI 422 has been under pressure to embark on renovation and enhancement of image of the structures (halls). This is aimed at bringing them up to the standard required to accommodate the activities of the guests of the Grand Hostel.
The worthy president who read the address recalled: “We just finished re-roofing our two halls last year despite our lean resources. This time around, there is urgent need to tile the hall, change the louvers to Aluamaco, repaint and install air conditioners with a budget running into millions of Naira”.
He emphasized that Knights and Ladies should first and foremost regard the Hall as their place of worship, which should receive the best attention. Sir Nwachukwu therefore called on members to donate generously towards the project assuring them that no one gets poor by giving as givers never lack.
In his opening remarks before the donations started, the Grand Secretary of the Owerri Grand Commandery of KSJI, Col. T.K. Nwachukwu announced that the Owerri Grand Commandery was going to host the 2017 West African KSJI Summit and the venue is the KSJI Grand Complex Owerri.
He stressed the urgent need to upgrade the facilities in question, so as to provide a conducive environment for those who will attend.
The Grand Secretary urged Knights and Ladies to donate generously bearing in mind that God never fails to reward those who invest in His vineyard. He called for volunteers to take up various aspects of the facilities to be upgraded such as tiling, painting etc.
Earlier in the homily he delivered during Mass, the Spiritual Adviser of the Commandery, Rev. Fr. Kizito Onyeka drew lessons from the Reading and Gospel of that day. He warned that man operates on a borrowed gab and therefore has nothing to boast about, except he boasts in the Lord, as St. Paul wrote in his letter to the Ephesians.
He also said that there is nobody to whom God has not given one gift or another, to be used for the service of God and Man. Fr. Onyeka warned that just as the master in that day’s Gospel praised those servants who invested their talents profitably and punished the lazy one, who dug a hole and hid his, so God will require everyone to account for the gift given to him or her.
The highlight of the occasion was the donation of various amounts of money by members including, some pledges.
