…Inaugurates Ehime-Mbano Chapter
The Imo State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Ezechinyere Chukwu has implored the Federal Government to quickly ensure that machinery is put in motion towards creation of an additional State out of the South Eastern Geo-Political zone so as to assuage nerves and agitation against marginalization.
Dr. Chukwu opined that creating an additional State from South East as recommended in the 2014 National Conference chaired by Hon. Justice Kutigi will bring the zone at parity with other five Geo-political zones that constitute Nigeria. He regrets that the non-creation of another State from South East is inequitable, unfair and crass display of double standards as what is good to the goose is also good for the ganders.
He reasoned that the benefits that will accrue from creating another State in South East will fast-track development, provide employment to the teeming jobless population, and engender justice and equity which are the bedrock of the rule of law and egalitarian society.
The Imo State President of Ohanezé Ndigbo made these observations in an exclusive interview after inaugurating the Ehime Mbano Chapter of the association on Thursday 15th September 2016 at the Local Government Council Secretariat.
In his remarks at the forum, HRH Eze Emmanuel Ibechi (Akagi I) and Chairman Ehime Mbano Council of Ndi Eze observed that it is high time the rich cultural heritage of the Igbos were given its pride of place. He bemoaned the apparent lack of adequate respect, honour and recognition of Royal Fathers in both the private and public domain.
He observed that the time is apt to accord dignity and reverence to the Royal stool as is evident in other tribes who revere the traditional authorities. Eze Ibechi advised that Ohaneze Ndigbo should encourage Igbos to look home-wards and ensure establishment of industries and development of their place of origin contrary to what is obtainable currently.
The newly inaugurated Ehime-Mbano Council of Ohaneze Ndigbo has Barrister Jude Ukanwa as Chairman, Chief Louis Ashionye and Hon. Innocent Njoku as Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively among others. The event was graced by the T.C. Chairman, Hon. Chike Orjiakor.
In his brief response after the inauguration, Barrister Ukanwa posited that his primary aspiration is to have more members in the association. He promised to ensure that the lofty goals of the organization were vigorously pursued.
He described the organization as socio-cultural Organization which is aimed at fostering Igbo unity, promote culture and ensure that Igbos speak with one voice as they have common identity.
Members of the State Council present at the event include Amb. Kenneth Nwachukwu, Chief Patrick Ugwuegbulem, Mrs. Heart Nkechi, Chibundu Princewill and Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, the President
The event was chaired by Major — General Alphonsus Chukwu (Rtd) who urged Igbos to bring their ingenuity and proactively to bear so as to transform the region into Japan of Africa. According to him, it is exigent that Igbos must unite so as to speak with one voice. He warns that ‘United we stand, but divided we fall’. He urged Igbos to love themselves so that there will be unity so as to achieve common objectives.
General Chukwu admonished Ohaneze Ndigbo to co-opt other socio-cultural organizations so as to harness their potentials for the overall development of the Zone and mutual symbiotic relationship that will help National Development.
