Society of St. Vincent De Paul Celebrates Feast with Prison Inmates
This year’s Feast of St. Vincent de Paul which was marked on the 27th of September, 2016 was celebrated in a grand style in Owerri Archdiocese. The feast which was preceded by a 9-Day Novena in all the conferences in the Archdiocese featured “Home visit” where members visit the poor in their homes, feted the destitute, visited motherless babies home and had Thanksgiving Mass.
On Wednesday 28th of September, 2016 the Prison Unit of the Society joined the conferences from Zone 2 and Zone 3 particular councils led by Mr. Leo Nwahiri from Obibiezena Council and Mr. Stanley Nwaneri from Ogbaku Council to visit the Federal Prisons Owerri to celebrate with them. They presented the inmates with gift items which included cartons of soap, detergent, paste and disinfectants, cartons of biscuits and rolls of toilet tissues as well as cooked food.
During the song and prayer session at the Prison Chapel, the Chaplain of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Owerri Archdiocese Rev Fr. K.K Nzewuji in his sermon, titled ‘Take the Stone Away and Let Him Go’ assured the inmates that Jesus will roll out any problem they are encountering and let them go. As Jesus did it to Lazarus, he can still do it to inmates who believe.
He also prayed for the sick inmates as well as those going to court the next day that God would help them get fair hearing. The President of the Society in Owerri Archdiocese Bro. Nicodemus Duru and Chairman Prison Unit Mr. Emma Nwagwu accompanied the Zones to the Federal Prisons Owerri.
