St Michael’s Amakohia Uratta dedicated …Marks 25 Years Anniversary
The Catholic community of St Michael’s Parish Amakohia in Owerri North L.G.A wore a festive mood, Friday September 30, 2016 as their refurbished church was dedicated by the Most Rev Dr Anthony Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri. The catholic community also used the occasion to mark the 25 years anniversary of their parish.
In his sermon, the Archbishop thanked God for His mercies as children of God are privileged to experience His glory in His church as it is being dedicated. “We are also being dedicated through divine sanctification. Those who glory in sin especially the sins of the flesh are doomed” he said. The prelate asked: Are we living in sin and doing all sorts of atrocities are we into syncretism? Are we hypocrites? He stated that if the answers to these are yes, then we are bound to repent and through the dedication give ourselves entirely to God by living the life of holiness.
Continuing, he said the demand for holiness is for all and as such everyone should go to confession at least once in two weeks. He bewailed the seeming demise of peace in Nigeria nay the world even as he stated that a perfect peace is realized in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
While congratulating the priests who have worked in the parish, he commended the current parish priest, parishioners, friends and well wishers who contributed in no small measure in seeing to the renovation of the church, he urged the parishioners to continue to support their priests and the church.
In his remarks, the parish priest who is also the vicar general of the Archdiocese Very Rev Fr Patrick Ibole expressed profound gratitude to God despite the rains. He thanked the Archbishop for his pastoral care and the chancellor Rev Fr Alphonsus Oha, other priests present, Rev Sisters, friends and well wishers.
The second phase of the ceremony which was originally scheduled to take place at the church compound was moved to the hall because of a heavy downpour.
In his address, the chairman parish pastoral council thanked immensely the Archbishop for all his untiring efforts in seeing that the church was dedicated. Barr Anthony Emeana was also full of appreciation to His Grace for attending the dinner party organized to raise fund to landscape the church. To the donors, various sub-committees and dedication central working committee, the Eze of the community, former parish priests of the parish, the PPC chairman was full of praises.
