Ehime-Mbano community celebrates New Yam with Holy Mass
The Eze-elect of Okpaziza autonomous community, Ehime-Mbano, HRH Eze Ajonuma, Eze Diohamma I, celebrated his first official function with the traditional ‘Iri Ji’ at his palace recently.
Rev. Fr. Steve Onuoha, Parish Priest St. Theresa Catholic Church Umunakanu, celebrated a Holy Mass as part of the activities heralding the feast of the new yam.
In his homily, Fr. Onuoha admonished Igbos to love one another and be their brother’s keepers as united we stand, divided we fall.
The homilist observed that it is important that Christians give their first fruits to God and admonished the congregation to ensure that good Igbo cultures were not allowed to go into extinction
According to him, it is wrong practice for Igbos to speak other languages and neglect their own.
He commenced the nascent Royal Father for identifying with culture and sharing proceeds from his farm with his subjects.
He prayed God to bless the traditional Ruler with bountiful harvest of all crops. Fr. Onuoha warned that people without culture are like people without origin.
In his remarks at the colourful event, Eze Ajonuma eulogized the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for involving the Royal fathers in governance. He promised to ensure peace and harmony in the domain.
Dignitaries present at the occasion include: Chief S.I. Nwaigwe, Venasius Nwachukwu, Christian Onyenedo, Dr. Dominic Anyanwu, HRH Eze Charles Anyaegbu, HRH Eze Osy Chukwunyere, HRH Longinus Chukwunyere, (Elem I of Umuelem) and HRH Eze Cletus Anyanwu among others.
The high point of the event was a royal dance by, Eze-elect Christian and Ugoeze Ajonuma during which the couple displayed rich dancing prowess.
