ICPC summons 4 IMT officials over N113m

Four principal officers of the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, have been summoned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, over alleged illegal collection of N113 million from students.

The petitioners noted that in contravention of the lawful directive of ICPC that the Rector and his principal officers refund the N40,000 collected from each students for hostel accommodation, the said money was not refunded.

In a letter dated October 14, entitled Investigation activities – letter of invitation, by Adedayo Kayode, on behalf of ICPC Chairman, asked the Rector of IMT to release the officers to the commission for investigation.

According to ICPC, those needed from the IMT included the Registrar, Head of Agricultural Department, Head of Final Account and the Chief Engineer of the institution. The letter read: “The Commission is investigating a case that borders on violation of the ICPC Act, 2000.

“Pursuant to Section 28 of the cited Act, you are required to release the following officers of the Institute to appear before the undersigned at the Commission’s Headquarters on dates indicated against their names:

“Mr. Sylvanus Asogwa (Registrar) and HOD Agriculture, October 26; while the Head of Final Account, Mr. Collins Ossai and Chief Engineer, Engr. Luke Mmamel, will appear on October 27.”

It was gathered that the Commission’s invitation was sequel to a petition by Anti-Graft Crusaders of Nigeria in Tertiary Institutes, IMT chapter, entitled Re: Report of massive abuse of office, fraudulent practices, graft and gratification in contravention of ICPC Act (against) the Rector and Registrar IMT, Enugu, dated March 7.
