KSM: Owerri Metro Council holds election – Emeakaroha re-elected Metropolitan Grand Knight
Prince Eugene Emeakaroha has been re-elected Owerri Metropolitan Grand Knight, Order of Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria.
He beat two other contestants to reclaim the position during a peaceful election conducted by the KSM Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Dr. Innocent Maduakolam Osuagwu, at KSM hall, Wetheral Road Owerri, October 7. The chaplain was assisted by the Supreme Knight, Chief Anthony Onuh and the Supreme Auditor, Chief Greg Esotu.
Speaking shortly before the election, Fr. Osuagwu reminded the delegates made up of metropolitan council members that knights were the pillars of the church and therefore should conduct themselves in a manner betting their status.
“Let this election be an extra-occasion to demonstrate to politicians in the society that election is a call to service and not a do or die affair”, Fr. Osuagwu said, warning that if anything went down the election, it would have a lot of implications for the knighthood and the Church.
In his remarks, the Supreme Knight, Chief Onuh, warned against bringing politics into the Order, reminding the delegates that KSM forbids any form of campaign during elections.
“If you are nursing ambition for a particular post, pray that the Holy Spirit guides a delegate to nominate you. If you are a delegate pray that the Holy Spirit directs you on how to vote. And for all of us, let us pray that the Holy Spirit may guide us to elect a person who will lead Owerri Metro to enviable height”, the Supreme Knight advised.
Earlier in his sermon during Holy Mass preceding the election, Rev. Fr. Benedict Onukwufor reminded the Knights of how Matthias was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot as an Apostle by casting of lot. “There was no campaign, and no petition after the lot fell on Matthias”. He expressed joy that the election day coincided with the Feast of Holy Rosary, which is a reminder that our weapon of war is not sword but prayer – Rosary.
He traced the origin of the Rosary and its efficacy and called on knights to pray the Rosary with their families because the situation we find ourselves in Imo State and Nigeria called for prayers.
Fr. Onukwufor who represented the chaplain, Fr. Innocent Osuagwu, at the Mass reminded the knights that Jesus Christ came to serve and not to be served and hoped that those who would emerge in the election would follow Jesus example of service.
In his post election speech, Prince Emeakaroha thanked the Supreme officers and the Owerri Metro Council for re-electing him and his executive for a second term assuring that the new executive will continue from where they stopped and make amends where they did not do well.
He said he had always carried the entire executive along in his programmes and commended the council for returning all of them for a second term, “except one of us who desired the post of MGK.” He appealed for co-operation of the new executive and the entire council to enable him realize his objectives.
Bro Emeakaroha had earlier in his pre-election address enumerated his achievements during his first tenure which included growth of Owerri Metro Council from 48 Sub-Councils in 2013 to 52 sub-councils presently, admission of 379 new members within the period, renovation of the dilapidated Mulumba Hall Owerri, complete payment of N15million levy to Veritas University Abuja, visit to Seat of Wisdom Seminary Owerri and donation of cash and materials worth N3.5m to the Seminary, laying the foundation of a monumental edifice, called “KSM Bethlehem” at Owerri by Archbishop Obinna in commemoration of the birth place of KSM Nigeria, donations to various dioceses within the Metro. etc.
