KSJI: District 8 Ladies round off Year of Mercy activities
Ladies Auxiliary (LAUX) of District 8, Knights of St. John International (KSJI) Owerri Grand Commandery, Tuesday October, 25, 2016, rounded off their programme for the church’s Year of Mercy.
Participants in the Rosary Procession and Eucharistic Celebration which took place at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri came from the four Ladies Auxiliary Commanderies of the district. They are: LAUX 350 Owerri, LAUX 473 Akabo, LAUX 488 Izombe and LAUX 585 Aladinma.
The occasion kicked off with the Rosary procession around the Cathedral, starting from the Obiri Odenigbo pavilion at about 11am, praying and singing till they entered the Cathedral Door, (the historic ‘Door of Mercy’), where the Mass took place.
Fr. Richmond Duru, who presided at Mass, also preached the homily, which was drawn from Christ’s explanations of what the kingdom of heaven is. He said that it is not a geographical location far away in the skies but right here in the hearts of those living out the Gospel of Christ.
Fr. Duru reminded the Lady Knights of their duty to nurture the Word of God sown in their hearts when they get home to let it grow into the mustard seed which Christ spoke of, so as to bring the kingdom of God to reign in their families and communities. This he, said will only be possible through the joy, patience and tenderness which they will show and which will attract their husbands and children to be desirous of returning home from wherever they are.
“Wherever a child of God is, God’s kingdom manifests in the form of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, such that those things that were not going on well, will start to go well. “Transform your homes into the kingdom of God by nurturing the Word of God you heard, as heaven begins here. Good Catholics should become mustard seeds and leavens exuding sweet fragrance and joy and softening every situation.
The homilist stressed the importance of Ladies of the church to be conversant with their bibles, reminding them of the popular saying: “Ignorance of the Bible is the ignorance of God”. He also emphasized the need for true Catholics not to allow their attendance at Mass to turn into mere routine but always make it a worship experience.
Answering our reporter’s questions after the Mass, the Respected President of LAUX District 8, Noble Lady Bibiana Ibe said that her members had gathered in response to the church’s directive that 2016 is the ‘Year of Mercy’ to carry out the living Rosary and celebrate the Holy Mass.
She explained that it provided them the opportunity to pass through the Door of Mercy, to assist the poor, to pray for God’s forgiveness and to forgive those who offended them.
