Requiem: Fr. Osuigwe Month’s Mind held
The Archbishop, the Presbiterium and Catholic faithful of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, gathered at St. Kevin’s Catholic Church Ogbaku on November 7, 2016, to celebrate the one month’s mind of the demise of Very Rev. Fr. Basil Osuigwe.
Among the Catholic faithful were Osuigwe’s father, relations and his parishioners of St. Kevin’s Parish Ogbaku, St. Michael’s Parish Amakohia Uratta and Stella Maris Parish Orodo.
The Archbishop who was the chief celebrant was flanked by Very Rev. Fr. Reginald Egbu, the Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr. Patrick Ibole while a large number of priests were also present.
The homily was delivered by Rev. Fr. Hycinth Okoroafor, Principal Presentation Secondary School Ogbaku, who harped on the essence of being truthful always. Fr. Okoroafor observed that the virtue of truthfulness was inherent in the earthly life of late Fr. Basil Osuigwe. He enjoined the living to imbibe that same virtue in order to attain eternal life.
According to him, as a Christian and a priest, Fr. Osuigwe kept the faith in his service to God. As a Priest and Pastor, he worked in many parishes where he led people to Christ; as a formator, lecturer and rector, he played a crucial role in the formation of the faith of many priests and young men in the world. As a canonist in the Archdiocesan Marriage Tribunal, he delivered just and good judgments in cases presented before him. He was also a kind-hearted priest, and fondly called ‘The Prof’ by many of his admirers.
Archbishop Obinna condoled with the bereaved family, the Ogbaku community and all who mourned with them.
Rev. Fr. Reginald Egbu, the Parish Priest thanked the Archbishop, Priests, the Religious and all who came to condole with the Osuigwe family, especially Christ’s faithful from other parishes.
