New Militant group tasks FG on peace process
A new militant group, the Niger Delta Marine Force (NDMF) has told the Federal Government to speed up the peace process in the region or dine consequences with the construction of oil facilities in the area.
The group, in a statement sent via electronic e-mail signed by its spokesman, General Benikeme Hitler also warned Total oil producing company to urgently consider massive development of communities in its area of operations or face attacks on its facilities.
Hitler declared that if the dialogue between the Federal Government, IOCs and Niger region was not resolved between January 5 and 30, facilities belonging to selected oil companies in the region would be destroyed.
He said the aim of the new group was to change the narratives of perpetual impoverishment of the Niger Delta people, especially in the ea of physical development, The NDMF spokesman who insisted that his group-wanted to see the holistic development of oil producing host communities and their localities and not to sabotage the economy of the nation, said oil companies should do the needful by developing the communities in their areas of operations.
While calling for the unconditional release of Niger Delta sons and daughters held in detention across the country due to arm struggle, the group also demanded self-determination.
The group, while restating its commitment and resolve to support the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in the aspect of his policies and programme that would benefit the region, called on youths to resist any attempt to use the resources in the region to fund the North-East Development Commission, The statement read in part: “NDMF demands that both the Federal Government and multinational oil company should fast-track dialogue process with aggrieved agitators for a lasting peace to return to the region. “The leadership of NDMF used the opportunity to call on the people of
the region to hold the governors in their different states accountable in spite of the trillions of naira they have received since the inception of democratic governance in the country, especially the 13 percent derivation accruing to the states.
‘We condemn in its entirety; antics of the political class who collaborate with oil companies to always seek to divide the youths through manipulation and divide and tactics in resolving issues concerning the pursuit of peace in the region.
“The Federal Government should stop the lopsided appointment into agencies of government which has tended to favour a section of the country”.
