St. Michael’s Parish Ngwoma Obube dedicated

At exactly 12:10pm, 31st December 2016, following the dedication prayer said by the Archbishop of the Owerri Archdiocese, Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna at the Altar of St. Michael’s Catholic Parish Ngwoma Obube, the three years old parish was formally dedicated to the glory of God and salvation of mankind.

…Your parish is the fastest developed parish in the Archdiocese – Archbishop Obinna

This was greeted with gunshots (Nkpurala) and a great feeling of excitement and cheers from parishioners, who trooped out en-masse, glowing in their parish uniform, cancelling other engagements during the yuletide, just to witness this epoch-making event in the annals of the parish’s history.

Earlier in the Mass, while briefing the Archbishop and handing over the keys and documents to the parish, the Parish Pastoral Council Chairman and the Secretary, Nze Damian Ekeagba and Mr. Martin Okere respectively, expressed satisfaction at the progress the parish has made within so short a time. They attributed it to the oneness and unity of purpose among the Catholic faithful in Ngwoma despite their small population and thanked the Archbishop for his great care for Ngwoma people.

Delivering his sermon during a Eucharistic celebration to mark the dedication, Archbishop Obinna, who presided, invited the congregation to approach the Holy Tabernacle of God with their worries and troubles so as to receive God’s blessings and graces to take home to their neighbours. He advised on keeping the house of God solemn, adding that, we must put an end to our evil ways and let our Christian lives shine out.

The prelate while admiring the structure, expressed delight at what was on ground. He said that all those signify unity of purpose, hence bringing out the beauty of the house of God.

Archbishop Obinna frowned at those who, in the name of celebrating their cultural festivals during the Christmas season, exhibit fetish practices, cause traffic jam and mayhem to road users and extort money. “Such people can’t be said to be celebrating Christmas because this doesn’t in any way represent the true celebration of our Lord’s birth” he said.

Priests that concelebrated with the Archbishop are: Rev. Fr. Samuel Offurum, parish priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Paschal Mbagwe, Rev. Fr. Augustine Opara, Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Oha, Rev. Fr. Jude Kadiri, Rev. Fr. Jonathan Ezenwoke, Rev. Fr. George Ike, Rev. Fr. Uzochukwu Njoku, Rev. Fr. Kizito Ezenwoke and Rev. Fr. Richmond Duru.

Speaking during the Mass, Rev. Fr. Samuel Offurum on behalf of Ngwoma Catholic faithful expressed appreciation to Archbishop Obinna who he said if not for his support to the parish the dedication would not have been possible. He thanked immensely the priests present, the parishioners and donors for their individual contributions to the parish’s growth.

Highlights of the celebration were the performance of the dedication rites and unveiling of the marble for the dedication.

Also featured in the celebration was the public presentation of the book: “From Traditional Religion to St. Michael’s Catholic Church Ngwoma Obube” authored by Mr. Martin Okere. A book that x-rayed the journey of Catholicism in the area from A.D 30 – A.D 2016.
