DG Imo Community Watch advises Opara Imo 2016 Winner, Others
The Director General Imo Community Watch, Pastor Frank Onwumere has congratulated the winner of the 2016 Opara Imo contest, Mr. Frank Onwumere jnr, other winners of the competition and advised them to live up to expectation. Pastor Onwumere gave the advise while interacting with The Leader in his office recently at Ikemba Ojukwu Centre, Owerri.
He observed that the contestants were drawn from the 27 local government areas of the state. The number of the contestants for the 2016 Opara and Ada Imo beauty pageant was recorded as 1018 participants. He expressed happiness that after a rigorous exercise to select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, his son emerged the overall winner. The Imo Community Watch boss further advised the Opara and Ada Imo, Mr. Frank Onwumere jnr and Miss Judith Orisa as well as others to remain focused in their future careers and never to be distracted by the activities connected with their new positions.
Pastor Onwumere commended Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his wonderful initiative in reviving the Imo cultural festival through his new vision as well as bringing the youths together through Opara and Ada Imo beauty pageant contests.
Speaking at the event, which took place at Imo International Convention Centre (IICC), Owerri recently, the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha stated that the event was aimed at promoting Igbo culture, adding that the state government will continue to ensure that it is celebrated every year.
He told the new Ada and Opara Imo that the state government holds them in high regards and that henceforth they have become the property of the state government. He also reminded them that government has the right to withdraw them from the position if found in any act of misconduct.
The Governor enjoined them to use their good offices to collaborate with the state government to reawake the youths and teach them the values of Igbo culture and tradition.
He further announced that the winners of the first position will go home with a brand new car each, and a week’s trip to any African country of their choice, the second winners were given two million naira each and a trip to any hotel of their choice in the capital city of Nigeria. The third winners received one million naira each and a trip to the best hotel in Owerri, while other participants were given consolation prizes.
