Sacred Heart Feast Day 2017: Patron seeks committed, fresh members

Sacred Heart Feast Day 2017 Patron seeks committed fresh members

The 2017 feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus at the St. Jude’s Parish Mbano Headquarters chapter of the Apostleship of Prayer, League of Sacred Heart of Jesus was held Sunday 25th June 2017. There was a call on convinced and committed Catholics to come join the League in devotion to the lord.

A patron and promoter of the League of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Brother Anthony Aligwekwe made the appeal in an exclusive interview with The Leader, shortly after the feast. Brother Aligwekwe reminded Catholics that the sacred heart of Jesus is the ultimate resort upon which all hopes for mercy and salvation should anchor in this troubled earth.

The three-time Okigwe Diocesan President of the League invited Catholics, especially the youth to imbibe intimate devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by participating actively in the weekly Thursday Holy Hour Devotion, the monthly first Friday and first Saturday devotions and regularly partaking in the sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist, among other pious programmes of the league. Brother Anthony reiterated the need for youth membership which he said was the view to injecting new blood to replace the current membership which he observed, was ageing, and encouraged members not to shy away from holding positions of responsibility in the League and called for increased support by the priests in the parishes.

The parish priest, Fr. Callistus Ogu presided at the Holy Mass of the ceremony and performed the induction of new members as presented by the parish Treasurer Ichie Leo Obiji. He encouraged members of the League to persevere in their chosen path of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and congratulated the inductees. They are Sisters Catherin e Ukeachu and Lilian Onwumere, as they were led in the prayer of their consecration by Brother Anthony Aligwekwe.

Events also featured offertory procession by members, burning of petition letters, and light refreshment after Mass.

At the Diocesan feast held two days earlier at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Okigwe, two members from St. Jude’s Mbano were among the new promoters inducted. They are Bro. Augustine Ukeachu and Sis. Helen Chukwuocha.

Prominent members present include Mrs. (Lolo) Celestina Obiji (Diocesan Secretary Emeritus), Mrs. Josephine Ukeachu (Parish President), Mrs. Njoku (Secretary).
