The Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri has emphasized the importance of love and prayer in marriage. The Archbishop gave his injunction on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 while preaching the homily at the wedding Mass of Mr. John Kanayochukwu Ihentuge from Umuonyeali Mbieri and Miss Juliet Ijeoma Ewurum from Amauburu Ubomiri, at Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri.
According to His Grace, Marriage demands prayer and love from each partner in order to create a peaceful home. This can only be possible if love is the bedrock of such a union just as Juliet Ijeoma proved it to John today.
The homilist advised the new couple to draw inspiration from the prayer said by Tobias in the book of Tobit calling God to protect them and continue to be with them from the beginning of their marriage. He noted that marriage as a sacrament and vocation has its own challenges which can be got over by prayer and love.
Archbishop Obinna admonished the couple to allow God to be their protector, adding that God is the creator of human race and must be worshipped in truth and spirit for us to enter his kingdom after our sojourn on earth. He recalled St. Paul’s writing to Ephesians that God is the author of marriage; the love a husband should have for his wife is like the sacrificial love of Christ for his bride, the church, which caused him to lay down his life for her salvation. A wife on her own part must be submissive to her husband so that the family will live in harmony.
The Mass was attended by people from Amauburu Ubomiri and Umuonyeali Mbieri as well as Rev Sisters and Priests included Rev. Fr. Gerald Onyekwere, Fr. Fedinand Ihekire (Parish priest Holy Family Amauburu), Fr. Stephen Egwim, Fr. Barth Uchegbu, Fr. Henry Opara Fr. Magnus Ajoku, Fr. Richmond Duru, Fr. Paschal Nwaobasi, Fr. Nnaemeka Njezi.
The reception followed immediately, where the cutting of the wedding cake, bridal dance, toasts and presentation of gifts took place.
