…As St. Patrick’s Umuezeala Owerre confers Ezinna Awards to parishioners

Very Rev. Fr. Joe Nwoha, Parish Priest, St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Umuezeala -Owerre, Ehime Mbano LGA, Imo State, celebrated the Eucharist on Sunday 25th February 2018, heralding the elevation of distinguished parishioners to Ezinna status (Good Fathers). He concelebrated with Rev. Fr. Finbarr Chukwu Tochukwu, Rev. Fr. Ignatius A. Eneche, Rev. Fr. Paul C. Nwagwu and Rev. Fr. Okwy Jude Ugwu.

In his homily, Fr. Nwoha observed that the greatest gift to man from God is the gift of life. He posited that the selection and elevation of Ezinna honorees is remarkable because it is the wish of God. He remarked that Abraham became the father of faith for enduring and waiting onto the Lord until the appointed time when God blessed him with the gift of Isaac, his only son. According to him, Abraham proved his faithfulness when he agreed to sacrifice Isaac as demanded by God.

He put a rhetorical question asking if the Ezinna Award recipients will elect to sacrifice their only son if they were in the same situation like Abraham. Fr. Nwoha enjoined them to have faith in God and be ready at all times to sacrifice all they have in the service of the Lord who owns all things. He remarked that God proved himself when he sacrificed his only son for the salvation of humanity.

The homilist said that the period of lent provides opportunity for man to repent and refrain from sin and put their trust in God and re-unite with him, if they must make heaven.

He called out the Ezinna Award recipients, asking whether they have forsaken their evil ways and accepted Christ and renounced devil and his evil ways, and they responded in the affirmative. He advised them to shun Satan and evil and help in the evangelization of the community.

The Ezinna Award Organizing Committee including Nze Callistus Mahakwe (Bishop), Chairman Comrade Cosmas Korie, Ikechukwu Uwalaka and Bro Desmond Nwaiwu were remarkable in their planning, ensuring the event was a huge success.

Among the Ezinna Awardees included Chief Nicholas Nkume, Chief Jonas Okoroafor, Nze Christopher Iwuanyanwu, Aloysius Iwuagwu, Prince Eugene Madu, Mazi Peter Ihedioha (Peterpan), Felix Iwuoha, Dominic Nwazode, Theopilus Ejiogu, Cosmas Obasi Agbawa, Patrick Obi, Athan Ashionye, Chief Aloysius Anyanwu, Innocent Edomobi, Kelvin Uzoigwe, Clement Anyanwu and Ezinna Kelvin Nwaeme.

In an address, Nze Mahakwe Onyenna enjoined the awardees to live above board like Caesar’s wife. According to him, “to whom much is given, much is also expected”. In his remarks, the C.M.O Chairman, Chinedu Akubueze eulogized the Parish Priest Fr. Joe Nwoha for being outstanding.

Dignitaries present at the event included: Chief and Lolo Paschal Nwagbake (KSJI), Barr. Philip Ihechu, Chief Emeka Okpegbue, Dr. (Engr) Chinedu Obasi (Haco), Sir Humphrey Uzoegbu, Nwaiwu Livinus (Egbubie), Jude Agu (Action) and Okeagu Dominic among others.
