…… Condoles with Benue state government
The Southern Youths wing of Christain Associations of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned in its entirety the recent massacre killings by Fulani herdsmen in the country.
In a press release made available to newsmen in Owerri recently, the President of the Southern Youth Wing of CAN, Barr. Oluchukwu Nnabugwu noted that since 2016 still date more persons have died in clashes with herdsmen than in Boko Haram especially in states like Benue, Adamawa, Ekiki, Imo, zamfara, Enugu and Delta.
Saddled by this, he disclosed that the Youths Christain Association has commenced the visit to states where the herdsmen menace has been of increase, with the aim to commiserate with the state, seek Government views as well as explore ways of mobilizing /engaging Nigerian Christian Youths within their operational scope to reach a sustainable way of steming the tides of Herdsmen killings in Nigeria.
In their commendation/ solidarity visit to the Governor of Benue state, His Excellency Samuel Ortom at the State’s Government House, Barr. Oluchukwu Nnabugwu applauded the Governor for his courage and genuine commitment towards ensuring a peaceful state.
He reiterated that Southern YOWICAN is the largest and apex regional body of Christian Youths in Nigeria which comprises of 17 states in the South- East, South-South and South-West region of Nigeria.
He noted that the association considers peace building as one of its core community responsibilities to the Nigerian multi- ethic society where peaceful co-existence is fundamentally the social need, hence the Peace Paradigm project initiated by the southern christain Youths to ensure a sustainable strategic approach towards peace building and deepening of peace culture in Nigeria society.
Barr. Nnabugwu added that the platform basically provideves spiritual rejuvenation leadership development, political sensitization/ mobilization and ecumenical exposure for Nigerian youths within the aforesaid region, and pledged their unalloyed support to the growth and development of the state government and Nigeria at large.
The Southern YOWICAN & GOIN Foundation further conferred a Peace Ambassador award on His Excellency, Dr. Samuel Ortom in recognition for his commitment and contribution to Peace Building in Benue state.
Responding, Gov Ortom appreciated the Youth body for identifying and sympathizing with the state over the massacre killings by Fulani herdsmen while reiterating that the Southern YOWICAN has visionary youths who understands the needs of the nation.
On the issue of law on gazing in the state, he stated vehemently that it is the best law so far, noting that ranching is the only solution to end herdsmen killings in the country.
Gov Ortom further presented an award of recognition to the President of Southern YOWICAN, Barr. Oluchukwu Nnabugwu for his friendship/ contribution towards the growth of the state. He also endorsed the Peace Paradigm project and promised to partner with them and other Christain Associations to ensure that peace reigns in the country.
The highlight of the visit to Benue state was the toll to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps accompanied by the SA to the Gov on religious affairs, Rev. Joseph Ogazi and the state CAN officials with gift items. They also visited the burial site for the 73 victims of Fulani herdsmen massacre in Benue state.
