…Commends Fr. Chigere for hard work

History was made on Thursday, April 19, 2018 as parishioners, priests, religious and well wishers gathered to witness the inauguration of St. Stephen Catholic Parish Urualla.

The event began with a holy Mass presided over by the Local Ordinary of Orlu Diocese, Most Rev. Augustine Ukwuoma. In a homily during the Eucharistic celebration, he said that church is a light that directs our lifestyle and also brings development to the society.

The bishop noted that the creation of more parishes is to facilitate pastoral visit as well as for people to come close to God. He added that creation of new Parishes does not separate, but unite the people of God for more and effective service to God and humanity. The church focuses on the major goal which is to bring salvation to mankind, as it brings transformation to all aspects of human life and the vicinity. He commended those people who use their God-given riches to appreciate God by erecting structures and supporting church projects as well as helping those in need. The Most Rev Ukwuoma therefore encouraged the parishioners on a collaborative work with their new parish priest, Rev. Fr. Desmond Nwanyanwu for the growth of faith and to achieve more structural developments in the parish. He gave kudos to Fr. Chigere for producing twin parishes in the same year.

In a welcome address, the chairman of the Parish Council, Ezinna Gabriel Ogbuji traced the history of St Stephen’s Parish to 2002, when Rev. Fr. Zeph Uzoma was the parish priest. He commended the efforts of Fr. Dr. Hyginus M.V. Chigere, who came and saw the pastoral need of actualizing the yearnings of the faithful for the parish status and ignited the light of consciousness in the people that resulted to that day’s celebration. He noted that after acquiring the land which some benevolent parishioners donated, the foundation of the church building was laid and work commenced through the professional assistance of their illustrious son, Engr. Emma Ezeonyeasi in 2004. Ezinna disclosed that Fr. Chigere laid the foundation of the father’s house on 13th March, 2016, and through collective efforts of the station, the work was quickened to the extent it is.

The parish priest of St. John’s Parish, Urualla, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyginus Chigere noted that St. John’s under his care produced twin parishes in the centenary year of Catholic evangelization in Urualla 2017/2018, St. Jude and St. Stephen’s Parish Urualla. He commended Most Rev. Augustine Ukwuoma for allowing the experiment that offers them a positive experience in the spiritual arena and his trust in their ability to succeed. Fr. Chigere applauded some parishioners for their zeal to ensure that a house of God was built and to worship him through donation of lands, building materials and financial support.

He thanked the Traditional Ruler of Umudioka Ancient Kingdom in Orlu LGA, Eze Dr. T.A. Obiefule for his unalloyed support for the building of the father’s house. He prayed God to bless all who contributed to make the event a successful one.

Dignitaries present included: the Vicar of St. John’s Urualla, Rev Fr. Kenneth Ezeala, Chief of Staff to Imo State Government, Chief Uche Nwosu, Member Representing Ideato North in Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Arthur Egwim, Hon Josephine Udoji, Engr.
