History was made in the annals of Christ the King Secondary School, Obike, Ngor-Okpala on Thursday March 15, 2018 with the official opening of her ultra-modern I.C.T. centre.
The E-Library was commissioned by Rev. Fr. Victor Eleba, Director of the Owerri Archdiocesan Education Commission on behalf of the Archbishop, His Grace, Most. Rev. Dr. Anthony J.V. Obinna and Chief. Mrs. Theresa Okonkwo, the Chairperson of the Education Commission.
In his speech, Fr. Eleba lauded the dogged efforts of the Principal of the school, Rev. Fr. Dr. Chikwendu Paschal Kizito Anyanwu and his staff for establishing a befitting I.C.T. centre for the enhancement and efficient teaching and learning in a technological age. He further admonished students to make maximum use of the facility for self-growth and self-development. In support of the project, Fr. Eleba made a donation of two additional laptop computers on behalf of the Education Commission to the school.
Earlier in a mini-lecture, Rev. Fr. Dr. Moses Chikwe of the Archdiocesan Education Commission,highlighted the positive and negative uses of the computer and the internet in a contemporary world and enjoined all, especially the students, to make positive use of the systems.
In his vote of thanks, the Principal, Rev. Fr. Anyanwu, whose joy knew no bounds expressed heartfelt appreciation to God for the actualization of the project in spite of the paucity of funds and the remoteness of the school’s location. He also expressed his profound gratitude to the Archbishop and to the Archdiocesan Education Commission for their support. He expressed his profound gratitude to all who helped in the realization of the project. Among the benefactors are the 2000 set of the Old Boys of the school who donated ten laptop computers; Mrs. Majella Nwaimo, Rev. Fr. Michael Okere, Mr. Edozie Ekweribe and Rev. Fr. Edmund Aku. He also used the opportunity to thank his friends who have at one time or the other, made contributions towards inspiring the students. He thanked Mrs.
Ogochukwu Chigbo who sponsored this year’s one term literary scholarships for the school, worth N280,000and the 2007 set of the school who awarded cash prizes of N10,000 and N5,000 to the best and second best students in all classes for the 2016/2017 academic year. He called on all philanthropists to support the school, noting that some of his friends who have given him support are from different places because they understand that education anywhere concerns everybody everywhere.
It will be recalled that the 2000 set of the Old Boy’s Association of the school made a grand donation of ten laptop computers worth N850, 000 to the school for the equipping of the E-Library/I.C.T centre. The President of the set, Mr. Francis Ugorji, during their visit to the school on Christmas day, 2017, pledged their continued support for the project, with the aim of making the I.C.T centre a JAMB accredited examination centre in the future.
Present at the occasion, also included Mr. Herbert Ihejieto, Secretary to the Education Commission, Rev. Sr. Miriam Petrus Ezeonye, who is in charge of religious education and a good number of the school’s tutorial staff. Thereafter, the Principal led the members of the commission round the school premises during which they saw the need for further infrastructural development of the school.
