The annual World Communications Day comes up on Sunday, May 13, 2018. The theme for this year is, “The truth will set you free (John 8:32): Fake news and Journalism for peace”.
His holiness Pope Francis sends this message to the entire Universal Church of Christ, beckoning on all Christians to stand on the truth always and everywhere.
A press release signed by Rev. Fr. George Nwachukwu, Director of Communications/Media, Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, said Christian media workers in associations with the Imo State government will celebrate the Day in a grand style.
The ceremony begins with a concelebrated high Mass at the Assumpta Cathedral Owerri by 9.30 am. It will be followed immediately by a lecture on the theme, to be delivered by an erudite Professor of Linguistic Science, Professor Obiajulu Emejulu, at the Assumpta Hall. To establish a difference this year, there will be choral entertainment and lots of entertainment.
Fr. Nwachukwu said some fearless and outspoken media experts in the state will be recognized on the occasion.
The release invites all Christian media workers in the state and all media friendly individuals and organizations to the occasion.
His Grace Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna, Catholic Archsbop of Owerri, expects all the priests in Owerri Province celebrating Mass anywhere on this day to emphasize the theme of this year’s World Communications Day.
World Communications Day was established by Pope Paul VI in 1967 as an annual celebration that encourages interaction between the Church and media practioners on the opportunities and challenges of modern media and other means of social communication.
