… As branch swears in new officers

A foremost social club, The Peoples Club International, has announced its determination to embark on more humanitarian services, including scholarships and charity, in order to touch the lives of downtrodden Nigerians.
Chief ABC Uche (KSC) newly elected chairman of the Owerri Branch, said this while chatting with the Press, after the swearing-in-ceremony of new officers at the Club’s Office Amakohia Owerri, Wednesday May 30, 2018. According to him, the Club’s philosophy of Unity, Love and service would be translated into action through more support to charity homes and people undergoing distress conditions.

The branch chairman, who said that the club has for decades blazed the trail in humanitarian services, disclosed that the Association built the Orlu Chesire Home and have always given the Red Cross Motherless Babies Home Owerri, the Okwele Chesire home and other establishments that cater for the less privileged, the necessary support.
He stated that the club, in furtherance of its contribution to national development, plans to start awarding scholarships soon to brilliant but needy students. By extending such assistance to fellow Nigerians, the Peoples Club would be fostering its ideals of peace and unity, thus uplifting the socio-economic welfare of people, especially the marginalized, and physically challenged. He said that this would assume top priority in the club’s scheme of things.
Chief Uche, who is the President of the Council of Knights of St. Christopher (KSC) in Ehime zone, Okigwe South Diocese, said that during the three-year tenure of his executive, they would also look inwards to fix infrastructural facilities that require urgent attention. These include: The rebuilding of broken down Club’s Tennis Lawn, Guest House, among others.

The Branch chairman regretted how harsh economic situation in Nigeria had adversely affected people’s lives and businesses, especially in the area of power supply as well as low infrastructural condition of our metropolis. He called on members of the club to be alive to their social responsibilities and to keep the Association focused along the vision of their founding fathers, which was the upliftment of the larger society.

The swearing in ceremony, which took place in four-phases, was conducted with the permission of the chairman, by the Legal Officer of the Branch, Barr Anthony Emeana (KSJ). He began with the administration of oath of office and oath of Allegiance to the club on the chairman himself. Then followed similar exercises on the Table Officers, the Elders/Advisers and the various committees. It would be recalled that The Peoples Club, which started in Onitsha in 1976 now has 23 branches abroad and branches in most major cities of Nigeria.

The officers sworn in are: Chairman, Chief ABC Uche (KSC), First Vice Chairman Chief R.O. Duru (KSM) aka Okeosis, Secretary, Hon R.C. Omeaku Jnr (KSM) and Assistant Secretary, Mr. Ibe Obasi (KSM). They also include: Treasurer, Sir Felix Duruaku, Financial Secretary, Sir Ben Ofondu and PRO/Publicity Secretary, Hon Alex Ihezuo. Barr Anthony Emeana (KSJ) is the Legal Officer, Dr. Nze Emma Nwosu, Welfare Officer, Mr. Aguzie Chimezie, Assistant Welfare Officer and Dr. Eloka Unaigwe, House Master.
