Most Rev. Dr. Solomon Amatu, Catholic bishop of Okigwe Diocese celebrated the Eucharist heralding the bestowment of Ugwunna and Pillar of Church awards to distinguished individuals for their selfless services and philanthropic contributions for the growth of the church and humanity.
The occasion took place on Saturday 19th May 2018 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Okigwe.
Among the honorees included Ugwunna Francis Chukwunenye P. Ukanyirioha, a native of Umuoyo Ekwereocha Autonomous Community, Ihitte-Uboma LGA; a distinguished veteran police officer who bagged the Inspector General of Police Annual Meritorious Commendation after an intensive course on security.
Ugwunna Francis Ukanyirioha, a Rotarian was given a certificate of recognition as an outstanding Secretary of Rotary International District 9140. His passion for service to God and humanity saw him being appreciated with an Ezinna award (good father) in 2014 at Mater Dolorosa Parish Ihitte, Ihitte Uboma LGA.
Ezinna Francis Ukanyirioha received chieftaincy title as Nnanyereugo I of Agumba, Abia State by HRH Eze Joseph Obasi in 2014 and received award of Excellence from the Catholic Youth Organization (CYON) in 2014. He is a quintessential peace-maker, generous and a dogmatic Christian, and community leader.
The Leader spoke with Francis C. Ukanyirioha (Jr), one of his sons who said his dad had doggedly remained tall and steadfast in defense of the Church through thick and thin. According to him, he was not surprised that his father was honoured because he deserved the award in deed and action.
He reeled out positions his dad held in the church which include Financial Secretary, Catholic Men Organization of Mater Dolorosa Parish leader, the Blessed Iwene Tansi prayer group, Etiti Zone, President Laity Council of Mater Dolorosa Parish, member, Parish Pastoral Council and member Ihitte Group of Parishes.
Ugwunna Francis Ukanyirioha promised to put more effort in service to God and humanity so as to make the Church and the society a better place.
