It was an epoch making event on Thursday July 19, 2018 as the former Administrator of Maria Assumpta Cathedral Parish, Rev. Fr. Gerard Onyekwere and his assistant, Rev. Fr. Magnus Ajoku were sent off.
The current Administrator, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Ijemaru, in his remarks at the impressive ceremony, said the former Administrator and his assistant meritoriously served the parish to the best of their abilities and their achievements will stand the test of time. He prayed that God will grant them the grace to serve Him more in their various areas of new assignments.
In his own remarks, the Parish Pastoral Council Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Uzoka acknowledged the great work the administrators did during their tenure.
“Rev. Fr. Gerard Onyekwere and his Assistant, Rev. Fr. Magnus Ajoku worked very hard to make sure that our parish maintained its dignity and respect in the Archdiocese,” Mr. Uzoka said, and wished them well in their new assignments in the Lord’s vineyard.
The Vice-Chairman, Parish Pastoral Council, Mr. Andrew Opara, read a farewell speech on behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council.
The highlights of the event were presentation of gifts by the Parish Pastoral Council, the four stations, CMO, CWO, CYON and other sodalities in the Cathedral parish.
Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion also showed their gratitude to the priests who they said did creditably well while they were serving in the parish
Responding, Rev. Fr. Gerard Onyekwere, represented by Rev. Fr. Theodore C. Ihenetu, showed his gratitude and appreciation to all the parishioners for organizing such a great event for him. He prayed that God will replenish all that was spent to bid him farewell.
Rev. Fr. Magnus Ajoku, represented by Rev. Fr. Justin Adiele,in a similar way thanked the parishioners for all their support during his stay in the Cathedral and also urged them to continue to pray for him as he goes back to school for further studies.
The occasion was also used to officially welcome the new Administrator, Fr. Nick Ijemaru. In a brief welcome address on behalf of the parish, the Chairman of the Parish Finance Council, Engr. Barth Onyekwere assured Fr. Ijemaru of the support of the parishioners in the discharge of his pastoral duties.
