The Home and Abroad Union of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of the Blessed Tansi Catholic Church Ugwu Orji Owerri, last Sunday, August 19, 2018 rounded off its 2018 August Meeting. It was done with a thanksgiving Mass presided over by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Benedict Oparaugo. He concelebrated with his Assistant, Rev. Fr. Victor Asoluka and the priest-in-Residence, Rev. Fr. JohnBosco Uchearikor.

The occasion was attended not only by the members of the union, but their husbands, friends as well as the merit awardees and their supporters.
Preaching the homily, Fr. Uchearikor called on Christians to appreciate the wisdom of God, who sent his son, Jesus Christ to reveal the truth to mankind and who after finishing his work on earth glorified God the father by leaving his body and blood, for his followers the Eucharist as a form of thanksgiving to God.

In his introductory remarks earlier, the parish priest, Fr. Oparaugo had announced that the theme for reflection that Sunday, was ‘The Eucharist, a thanksgiving to God.” Christ he said, gave thanks to his father when he had completed his work on earth, using the Eucharist, the sacrament of his body and blood. The church, the mystical body of Christ uses the same Eucharist to thank God for the gift of Jesus Christ, who is the wisdom of God, as reflected in the first reading. It is this same wisdom that has made its home in the church. The second reading is a call on Christians to live a holy life through the wisdom of God, emphasized the parish priest.

In an answer to a question later, Fr. Oparaugo commended the efforts of the Catholic women, revealing that it was the Home & Abroad group in 2008 that realized the initial fund which added to the proceeds of the 2009 harvest was used by the parish priest and council to commence the church building. He said that as the proposed dedication to God of the Blessed Tansi Church draws nearer, it is a thing of joy that it is this same group that has come to assist with money towards the realization of the project.

In the Address she presented at the occasion, the President of the union, Lolo Justina Ngozi Anozie identified the forthcoming dedication of the church as the main objective of their fundraising efforts at this year’s August Meeting. She called on the Awardees and their supporters to donate generously towards the project on hand including fixing of front windows, as well as the plastering and painting of the church. The Home & Abroad President listed the activities and achievements of the group as: Visit to bereaved and sick members, giving of their rights to married couples and those who gave birth, seminars and workshops and giving of enlightenment talks on health. She disclosed that her members recently had a lecture on ‘Breast cancer Prevention and Care” as well as spiritual talk centered on obedience to their husbands and proper upbringing of their children.

The climax of the celebration was the presentation of Award Plaques bearing various titles to those being honoured who with their supporters donated generous amounts of money. The fund-raising arrangement also entailed holding hostage of some prominent officers of the parish by the women and their release following payment of money by their well wishers. All these activities were done in order to raise the much needed funds for the dedication of the church.
