The Owerri central council of the society of St. Vincent de Paul in collaboration with its prison unit committee visited the Federal Prisons Owerri to celebrate with the inmates the feast of Assumption of our Blessed Virgin Mary.
Food stuff and provisions presented to the prison inmates include: bags of rice, bags of garri, and tubers of yam. Other items include cartons of biscuits, soap, detergent, milk, disinfectant, loafs of bread and clothing materials.
These items were made available by Conferences from Emekuku and Oguta zones. They include: Holy Trinity Awaka, St. Mary’s Agbala, Mount Carmel Emekuku, Sacred heart Egbu, Immaculate Conception Nkwo Emeke, St. Joseph Ulakwo, St. Mary’s Umuawuka, SS Philip and James Egbu, Holy Family Uratta, St. John Uratta, Sacred Heart Oguta, St. Jude Egwe, Immaculate Heart Osuobodo.
Our correspondent Emma Nwagwu said they were led by Mrs. Jacinta Acholonu and Bro Emma Ochije.
Addressing the inmates during the prayer session, the president of Owerri Central Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Mrs. Cordelia Asobo advised the inmates to trust in God, believing that in whatever condition we find ourselves, God can always intervene.
Vincentians were treated to melodious tunes by the prison chapel band.
