The deplorable state of Owerri – Port Harcourt Road, especially between Assumpta Cathedral and Owerri Girls Secondary School is disturbing not only the Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerr but the entire residents of the area and motorists plying the roadi.
Students of Owerri Girls and the faithful of Maria Assumpta Cathedral are having hectic time accessing their school and church.
Speaking at the Cathedral penultimate Sunday, Archbishop Obinna appealed to the government to rehabilitate the road quickly to minimize the difficulties motorists and pedestrians are experiencing, especially students and teachers of Owerri Girls as well as the Catholic community of Maria Assumpta Cathedral.
The office of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Imo State, is located along the Road, less than a kilometer from the troubled spot.
Archbishop Obinna recalled that some years ago, the church had to resort to self help, when the same spot broke down, adding that he would have no option than to seek for help again from parishioners to rehabilitate the spot to save the lives of students and other pedestrians, who are the worst victims of the bad road.
