…Visits Archbishop Obinna
The Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria, Owerri Metro Council, has set machinery in motion for the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Order in Owerri.
The Owerri Metro Grand Knight of the Order, Prince Eugene Emeakaroha disclosed this when the executive of the Order paid a courtesy visit to Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri recently.
The MGK recalled that the Order was founded on June 14, 1953 at the Holy Ghost College Chapel Owerri, with 23 foundation members including Abbot Abraham Anselm Ojefua (father founder) and two Rev. Fathers, who later became bishops – Late A.G. Nwedo and M.O. Unegbu.
To immortalize Owerri as the place of origin of KSM in Nigeria, the Metro Council has embarked on a multi-million naira “KSM Bethlehem Complex” at the precinct of Holy Ghost College Owerri and thanked Most Rev. Obinna for donating the land for the historic project.
Prince Emeakaroha also used the opportunity to present to the Archbishop various trophies won by the Metro area at the national level of the Order. He also briefed the Archbishop on other areas of progress and issues affecting the Order.
Responding to the address, the Archbishop congratulated the Order on their 65th anniversary, saying he was delighted with the growth of KSM in Owerri Metro and Nigeria. He said the knighthood was the church’s major arm of spirituality for men and women and witnessing to the public.
Archbishop Obinna, who was a former Chaplain of the Order, commended them for the progress they’ve made at the “KSM Bethlehem Complex” and the harvests of awards they received at Supreme conventions.
The prelate congratulated Prince Emeakaroha and the LSM President, Dr. (Lady) Chinedu Brown “for their great enthusiastic leadership anchored in deep relationship with God” adding, that he was proud of them and their achievements. He also appreciated the Order’s assistance to the church, the poor and widows, especially their periodic visits to poor parishes in Owerri Archdiocese.
Archbishop Obinna made reference to current issues in the church, especially in Europe and appealed to the Knights and Ladies to pray for priests and also “watch over us” because “we are not perfect; we are vulnerable; we can fall from any height like Judas did.”
He said he celebrated his 25th anniversary of Episcopal ordination in a low-key because of the economic situation in the state and country. However, he announced that the Silver Jubilee of the elevation of Owerri diocese to Metropolitan Province next year will be different as all the dioceses in the province will be involved.
Those on the visit included, exco members of KSM and LSM at Metro level, and the members of the 65th anniversary committee led by the chairman, Bro. Eva Njemanze.
