Imo Government Agents take over Anglican Church Land

… Govt Call your men to order – Canon Chinemerem Uche

Men parading themselves as agents of the Imo State Ministry of Lands, on Saturday the 27th of October took over a stretch of land allocated to the Anglican Diocese of Owerri. They moved in with a bulldozer and cleared the entire land area and also blocked a major water canal and adjoining forest that received heavy flood water.

The land which is situated at the Federal Low Cost Housing Area around Trans-Egbu axis was allocated to the Anglican Diocese of Owerri for St Cyprian’s Anglican Church in 1996. The men who were led by one Mr Calistus Chinedu and one Alex Odor who claims to be of Umuodu Owerri, invaded the land, destroying the dwarf perimeter fence erected by the Anglican church.

They also destroyed the gatehouse being erected on the land by the church and blocked the water carnal that fed water into the artificial lake in the Housing Area.

The Vicar of St Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Federal Housing Estate Parish has expressed deep concern at this barbaric act and the very likely disaster that would happen when the rains begin. The Vicar, Canon Chinemerem Uche lamented that with this development, people around the Unity Primary School and St Paul’s International School might experience flooding of greater and damaging proportion. He therefore called on the State Government and her relevant agencies to investigate this matter and call the men to order.
