Trumpeta newspaper apologizes to Archbishop Obinna

The management of Trumpeta newspaper, an Owerri based tabloid, has apologized to Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri over the false statement in its Nov. 29, 2018 edition that Archbishop Obinna and some Owerri elders were instrumental in the choice of Prof. Placid Njoku as APC Deputy Gubernatorial candidate in Imo State.

In its Monday, December 3 Edition, the management of Trumpeta newspaper retrieved the publication and apologized to the Archbishop.

“…the management of Trumpeta Newspaper sincerely regrets any embarrassment the said publication may have caused the revered Archbishop as that publication was not meant to impugn on his integrity or defame his respected self and therefore retrieves the said publication with remorse.”

The Archdiocese had in a press release published in The Leader newspaper of Sunday December 2, 2018 denied the Trumpeta story stating categorically that “the revered and peace-loving Archbishop was neither consulted nor ever suggested the appointment of the candidate in question.”

The Press Release signed by the Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. George Nwachukwu, demanded the management of the Trumpeta Newspaper to render an unreserved apology to the Archbishop, retrieve the statement as false; and desist from any further defamatory publication relating to the Archbishop.
