… Solicits cooperation for Owerri Provincial Jubilee
Knights of the Church and their Ladies have been charged to play well their part as leaders of the various segments of the wider society. This charge was given recently, December 7, 2018, by His Grace, the Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, while interacting with executives of the Owerri Grand Commandery of Knights of St. John International (KSJI) who paid him a courtesy call at Villa Assumpta Owerri. He urged them to do so through exemplary leadership of a life of faith and good works rooted ‘deep in Christ.
The Archbishop who announced that plans have commenced for the celebration of 25 years of creation of the Owerri Ecclesiastical Province (1994 to 2019) said that it was an opportunity for the Province (which comprises all Catholic Dioceses in Imo and Abia States) to come together again after the celebration in 1912 of the centenary of Catholicism in this part of Igboland. He called on Knights and Ladies to be prepared to assist in the celebration in whatever capacity they are called upon, whether as individuals or groups. He disclosed that a planned catechesis of our people will be top in the agenda of the celebration. This is aimed at building deeper faith among the people so as to nip in the bud the practice of one leg in Christianity and the other leg in idolatry.
The spiritual activities lined up for the celebration include pilgrimages to designated historic places to enable Christ’s faithful grow spiritually. On politics, Archbishop Obinna said that the present period is a trying moment for our Imo electorate and that everyone should exercise wisdom in choice of who he casts his vote for.
He urged Knights to encourage people to register for next year’s general elections, obtain their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and exercise their franchise when the time comes.
It would be recalled that on arrival, the Spiritual Director, Rev. Msgr. Anthony Njoku introduced the Grand President, Brig. Gen. Anthony Enukeme to the Archbishop while the Grand President introduced the rest of the Executive.
Speaking at the occasion, the Grand President told the prelate that they had come to inform him about the four-day AGM and to solicit his blessings.
He later presented a purse to the Chief Shepherd, assuring him of the readiness of Knights and Ladies to assist the church whenever called upon to do so.
