Central Washington University active shooter report turns out to be false

Police at Central Washington University (CWU) gave the all-clear on campus Wednesday night following a report of an active shooter in the Lind Hall area — but the report turned out to be false.

The warning was issued at about 5:30 p.m. PT.

Special agents with the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the scene.

The university tweeted that it had no reports suggesting anyone was hurt.

It later said that it was performing a search of all buildings on campus and asked students to stay in place.

Finally, police reported that all buildings had been secured and that the campus was “safe and all clear.”

There were no shots confirmed, no known suspects, and no suspects were found, CWU added.

In a statement issued at about 9 p.m. PT, CWU president James Gaudino said in a statement that he was “greatly relieved that the report was not true.”

“The campus responded quickly and in an appropriate way to this episode, and I am most thankful it turned out to be a false alarm,” he said.
