Rev. Fr. Joseph Duru, Parish Priest, St. Joseph Catholic Church Umualumaku, Ehime Mbano L.G.A celebrated the Eucharist at the first year memorial anniversary and thanksgiving Mass of Chief Dr. Eugene Ebere Oguh, immediate past Rector, Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo on Sunday 30th December 2018.
Fr. Duru concelebrated with Rev. Fr. Cornelius Nwoye and Rev. Fr. Moses Okeke, the homilist. In his homily, Fr. Okeke posited that the celebration coincided with the feast of the Holy family and harped on the great need of a united family. He admonished families to be united, According to him, just as Christ is the head of the Church, the husband is the head of the family which is the microcosm of the larger global human community. The homilist cited the Holy family, of Joseph, Mary and Christ united in purpose against apparent obstacle.
He observed that in every family, the father, mother and children have responsibilities which are complimentary. Demised Chief (Dr) Eugene Ebere Oguh (KSM) immediate past Rector, Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo was remembered for being a good tool in the hands of his creator who implanted his feet in the sands of time. A poet once said “tell me not in mournful numbers, life is but an empty dream. A dead soul slumbers; things are not what they seem; true life must be real; true life must be earnest because the grave is not its goal. Dust thou art and to dust thou shall return is not spoken of enjoyment, not sorrow shall be our destined end or way, but we should strive in such ways that each tomorrow brings us farther than today; in the bivouac of life, in the great battle of life, don’t be a dumb driving cattle, but be a hero in the strive”.
Late Chief Dr. Eugene Ebere Oguh was a quintessential hero who through doggedness and hard worl bestrode like a colossus and an intellectual giant of sorts, excelled at various spheres of life. He was extolled for his compassionate virtues of love, industry who through dint of hard work reached th Zenith of his endeavours. A 4th Degree Knight of St.
Mulumba, Rector of the Imo State Polytechnic, Community Leader and a renowned Chief: Udokamma of Ezumezu Ehime Mbano, Ekwueme II of Mpan Ahiazu Mbaise, and Omeudo I of Umualumaku Umuihim.
Dr. Lady Joy Oguh (LSM), his wife, in her remarks at the memorial anniversary Mass observed Imo State Polytechnic under Rev. Fr. Dr. Wence Madu has redeemed their sponsorship pledge to construct a marble altar at St. Joseph Parish Umualumaku with the sum of Nine Hundred Thousand Naira in memory of the deceased.
Dr. Lady Joy Ogu made presentation of seats and religious items of worship valued at Eight Hundred Thousand Naira while her second son Engr. Chidiebere Ogu and his friend Engr. Uche Mejeha in appreciation of the distinguished sterling qualities of Chief Dr. Eugene Ogu donated Two Hundred Thousand Naira to the church. While Peter Anyanwu donated fifty thousand naira in appreciation of the deceased.
It is worth recalling that Dr. Eugene Oguh, while alive touched lives positively with employment opportunities, scholarships and ceaseless contribution of his resources for the growth of his home parish, St. Joseph Umualumaku and at the Assumpta Cathedral where he ensures bountiful annual harvest the glory of God. Chief Dr Oguh lives on as the family continues to keep the flame of philanthropy and charity to God and humanity aglow.
