Sends forth priest to greener pasture in America

By Magnus Ibe

Rev. Fr. Kelechi Uzuegbu celebrated the Eucharist heralding a thanksgiving celebration by the Parishioners of Holy Ghost Church, Umuanunu Nsu, Ehime-Mbano LGA on Sunday 17th February, 2019 to the send forth the cleric who is billed for greener pasture in United States of America.

Fr. Uzuegbu celebrated with an avalanche of priests including Rev. Frs. Desmond Uzo, Paschal Ihedioha, Benjamin Nwosu, Saviour Nwaiwu, Cosmas Onuegbu, Paschal Ndukwu and Rev. Fr. Joseph Duru.

In his homily with the theme ‘Trust in God’, Fr. Cosmas Onuegbu gave thanks to God for the gift of life which he described as God’s greatest gift to man. He expressed profound gratitude for the presence of the laity, the priests, the religious and Rev. Fr. Kelechi Uzoegbu.

The homilist explained related the homily to the first scriptural reading taken from Jeremiah chapter 17 verses 5 – 8 which says ‘the Lord says, I will condemn the person who turns away from me and put his trust in man, in the strength of the mortal man, he is like a bush in the desert, which grows in the dry wilderness on salty ground where nothing else grows. Nothing good ever happens to him.

But I will bless the person who puts his trust in me. He is like a tree growing near a stream and sending out roots to the water.

It is not afraid when hot weather comes, because his leaves stay green; it has no worries when there is no rain; it keeps on bearing fruit.

The homilist cautioned against hatred and wickedness. According to him, love is the only key to happiness and is the antithesis of wickedness and inhumanity. He observed that man is filled with bitterness and wickedness; the wicked man sets out to hurt, kill and maim because of inordinate ambition destroys his neighbour, friends associates, even his parents, and relatives because of craze for wealth.

He warned that Christ in state of his invincibility watches and witnesses all evil and all ungodly tendencies perpetrated by man. He harps on the need for the Christian virtues of love, charity and upright living.
