Jubilation as Onyinye Ilomuanya weds Obinna Agbasi

The holy matrimony between Miss Onyinye Miriam Ilomuanya, a final year medical student and Barr. Obinna John Agbasi was extraordinary as jubilant dignitaries, relations, friends and well-wishers from all walks of life stormed the Holy Cross Catholic Parish Aladinma Owerri Imo State, to witness the occasion.

The Pontifical wedding Mass was presided over by the Most Rev. Dr. Valentine Ezeonyia, Catholic Bishop of Aba Diocese.  He was assisted by the Parish Priest of Holy Cross Parish, Rev. Fr. Dr. Julius Mmegwa, his assistant, Rev. Fr. Franklin Ogbonna and 22 priests drawn from various dioceses, including Owerri, Aba and Orlu.


Welcoming the congregation to the Mass, Bishop Ezeonyia described the wedding between Obinna and Onyinye as a mission of love and procreation.  He went on to explain that this mission of love is not an easy one, because love demands a lot of work and skills to function.


In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Chikwe Ndukwu reflected on the theme of the Reading: “Happy are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways”.  He explained that once we fear the Lord and walk in his footsteps we will get nothing but happiness and this is what marriage life should offer to young couple like Onyinye and Obinna.

Turning to the couple he told them “In all things remember to fear the Lord and walk in His ways and may God bless you”.


One of the highlights of the Mass was the presentation of Certificate of Papal blessing from Pope Francis to the couple.


After the Mass, guests shifted to the magnificent Jesus Never Fails Arena (JNFA) New Owerri for reception.


The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Jones Onyeriri, member representing Isu/ Nwangele/Njaba/Nkwerre Federal Constituency in his opening remarks, advised the groom Dr. Obinna Agbasi, to nourish and cherish his new wife adding that you cannot cherish without nourishing.  If you cherish your wife it will make her to be submissive, he stressed.    The Chairman prayed that the good Lord will make their marriage life very peaceful.


The couple was sponsored by Hon. Justice & Mrs. T.N. Nzeukwu.

The parents of the groom, Chief & Lolo  John I. Agbasi (Omeziribe)  (KSM) from Njaba were full of joy at the occasion just like the parents of the bride, Chief Engr. & Lady S.O. Ilomuanya FNSE (KSM) from Obinugwu Autonomous Community, Orlu L.G.A.


The occasion was attended by the former deputy governor of Imo State, Dr. Douglas Acholonu, the former deputy speaker of Imo House of Assembly, Chief Chuma Nnaji, Hon. member representing Njaba Constituency, Hon Chidi Obiora, and Hon. member representing Isu Constituency, Hon. Ikenna Emeh.


Also present were Prof. Ubah Nnabue, Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Imo State, Chief Engr. Ralph Ekezie, former Commissioner for Health, HRH Ezeukwu of Amaukwu Orodo, Chief Hyacinth Onyekwere, former Chairman Civil Service Commission, Sir Vin Udokwu representing the former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba from various Sub-Councils, Njaba people at home and diaspora as well as people from Obinugwu Orlu L.G.A.


In an exclusive interview with THE LEADER, the mother of the bride, Lady Carol Ngozi Ilomuanya prayed God to bless their marriage with children, love and understanding.


She recalled that the union started with the traditional marriage on the 24th of May at the residence of Chief Engr. S.O. Ilomuanya in Obinugwu, adding that the occasion was as successful as the one we just witnessed today.  At the tradition marriage, HRH Eze Cletus Ilomuanya was present to receive all the traditional rulers from Njaba LGA.  Also present were the Vice-Chancellor Imo State University, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.C. Okonkwo, Chairman Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Owerri Branch, Engr. Emma Osai, Engr. Prof. Gloria Chukwudebelu of FUTO among other engineers etc.


The couple later acknowledged the good gestures, and support, words of encouragement and appreciation from their guests and prayed God to lead them home safely.
