Rev. Fr. Modestus Iwuanyanwu celebrated the Eucharist at the thanksgiving mass for the retirement from civil service of Nze Godwin Amaku former Imo State President of all Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, (ANCOPSS) at St. Monica’s Catholic Station, Ezenaobom – Umunumo, Ehime Mbano L.G.A. Imo State on Sunday 23rd December, 2018.
In his homily, Fr. Iwuanyanwu gave thanks to God for the gift of the celebrant who was the immediate past Parish Council Chairman of the St. Monica’s Ezenaobom. He extolled him for being a good tool in the hands of the creator. In his remarks Nze Godwin Amaku recalled with nostalgia that he was appointed a Mathematics/Physics teacher on 1st November, 1983: a very remarkable day of the feast of all saint symbolizing the divine intervention as he started his teaching career at his Alma-Mater, Community Secondary School Umunumo; and numerous other schools where he rose to become the No. 1 Principal in Imo State on special class.
Nze Godwin Amaku expressed profound gratitude to Chief Uche D. Edomobi, Major General Aiphonsus Chukwu, Monsignor Jerry Ofoegbu, his colleague and associates for having confidence on his abilities and for being present at the thanksgiving mass.
One peculiar feature about the schools where he taught was that they were schools awaiting approval inspections by the examination bodies. He taught at various schools ‘including; Comprehensive Secondary School Ehunachi, Obowo, Community Secondary School Ikenanzizi, Boys Model Secondary School Umualumaku, Government Secondary School Owerri, Comprehensive Secondary School Amakohia Irete, Owerri North L.G.A among other schools.
As a member of ANCOPPS he was elected Okigwe zonal Financial Secretary of ANCOPPS, he was thereafter elected State Treasurer before being elected as President of Imo State Chapter of ANCOPPS where he brought his leadership sagacity to bear, introducing diverse measures that propagated the body to a higher pedestal.
His leadership introduced check-off dues. When the introduction of free education adversely affected the smooth running of the organization.His regime also introduced ANCOPSS support levy and mobilized towards the election of the 1st National Vice-President in the person of Pastor Mrs Ngozi Njoku.
Nze Godwin Amaku is happily married to Mrs Ebere Amaku – a teacher and the union is blessed with promising children. Among the top brass personalities present at the event included Monsignor Jerry Ofoegbu, Major-General Alphonsus Chukwu, Chilee and Lolo U.D Edomobi, Chief and Lolo T. Igwe, Prof. J.C Ihemeje, Chief and Lolo Ben Okakwe (KSM). Others include Nnaoha F.O. Njoku, and Chief Mrs. F.O Njoku, Barr. K.C. Ibekwe, F.C. Nwadike, Ezinna Emma Ugochukwu and Dr. Emma Ibe among others.
