FUTO holds Intellectual Products Exhibition
The 2013 FUTO Intellectual Products Exhibition tagged FUTOLITE has ended at the university’s convocation arena, July 2. It was declared open by the Chairman of the 10th Governing Council of the University, Dr. (Chief) E.M.I. Enemuo.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chigozie Asiabaka said that the institution was established in 1981 as a foremost university of technology in the country with a mandate among others to “operate practical and result-oriented programmes and training geared towards transforming the nation’s economy from consumer-oriented with a sound technological base”.
By this mandate, FUTO was commissioned to be the hub of technological transform of Nigeria, he added.
He said that FUTO stands out in accomplishment and fulfillment of this mandate with her products becoming not only the toast and destination of captains of industry and employers of labour but also employers of labour and celebrated captains of industry in the public and private sectors of the nation’s economy.
He commended the efforts of Prof. C.B.C. Ohanuzue and his team for organizing the event and congratulated the researchers and demonstrators of the various intellectual products.
In his address, the Chairman FUTOLIFE 2013, Prof. Chukwuma B.C. Ohanuzue defined the event as an intellectual harvest of ideas, inventions, innovations, fabrications and projects from the various schools and departments organized under the aegis of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPPTO) of the university.
He made it known that the exhibition was the 3rd in the series as the maiden edition was held in April 27, 2010 and witnessed participation from 14 departments in the university.
He hoped that the exhibition would bring to the fore those features that make FUTO products the toasts of employers of labour and also identify such products that deserve financial attention of management. He also said that most of the products being exhibited would form the bulk of the university’s submissions at the Nigerian Universities Fair holding later in the year.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor for giving them the opportunity to organize the exhibition.
Speaking while declaring the exhibition open, the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Enemuo commended the vice-Chancellor for his tireless efforts to uplift the university and said that the school as a whole owed him loyalty, words of encouragement and respect. He also appreciated the efforts of the deans of different schools who encouraged the students, adding that every graduate of FUTO should acquire one good skill or the other and should be self-employed.
Our correspondent said researchers from various schools/faculties of the university exhibited various intellectual products in agriculture, engineering, environmental and health technology etc.
