A water borehole has been donated to the Owerri Relief Market by the personal effort of the former Commissioner for Community Government Council and Chieftaincy Affairs, Imo State, Hon. Barr. Ugochi Nnanna Okoro.

Commissioning the water project on Tuesday, August 27, on behalf of the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha, the SOLAD of Owerri Municipal Council, Hon. Dr. Pascal Uja commended the ex-commissioner for her love for the market community which, he said, needs the borehole to keep their surroundings and market wares in good hygienic condition.

According to the SOLAD, the borehole now adds to another one which, he, the SOLAD rehabilitated as the market is too big to depend on only one.  Chief Dr. Uja thanked the market community for keeping the surroundings of the water project clean and called on the market and its management to ensure that the project is always in good working condition and serving the purpose for which it was donated.

Speaking at the ceremony, the donor, Hon. Bar. Ugochi Nnanna Okoro said it is in recognition of the support of the market community and the people of Owerri Municipal Council in general to her political career.  She recalled that they elected her as their representative in 1996 during the aborted General Sani Abacha transition to civil rule and their continued support since the inception of democracy in Nigeria.  It was for these reasons that she promised to donate the water project to the community out of her personal savings when the market leaders called on her.

She said, it would be impossible for her to forget the support of the people who made her what she is and gave her courage to move on, and who joined her team during her senatorial campaign, assisting her in touring the nine LGAs that make up the Owerri senatorial zone.

She however, called on the Relief Market Community who, she said, she facilitated their elevation to Community Government Council (CGC) status while she was still the Commissioner for CGC and Chieftaincy Affairs, to fully join and support the new train of Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha who is now in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his own speech, the Chairman of Relief Market Association, Hon. Ben Ihejieto thanked Hon. Barr. Ugochi Nnanna Okoro for coming to their rescue as the donation now helps them in keeping their environment and market wares clean.
