Commissioner for Industry ad Non-formal Sector/Supervising Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barr. Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro who stated this at St. Kevin’s Catholic Church Ogbaku where the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) gave her an award as “Ambassador of Mary” during this year’s Mother’s Day celebration, urged mothers to rise to the challenge of bringing up their children under strict religious guidance as this shall help reduce criminality among youths.

Barr. Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro decried a situation where families are in disarray because of disunity caused by running from one church to the other and called on mothers to emulate the Blessed Virgin Mary by being virtuous, steadfast and prayerful.

Conferring the award on Barr. Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro, the Parish Priest of St. Kevin’s Catholic Church, Ogbaku, Very Rev. Fr. Sebastian Igbokwe extolled the excellent religious background of the awardee, recalling that Barr. Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro’s mother, late Lady Catherine Duruaku was devoted to the Rosary in her lifetime.

In a related development, women have been identified as astute managers of resources who can transform the society if given positions of authority.

Barr. Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro stated this when she received a delegation of Umualum Nekede Progressive Forum in her office.

She noted that women are equal stakeholders in governance and called on the society to shun male chauvinism as women entrusted with positions of authority have rendered quality service in various spheres.

The Industry and Non-Formal Sector Commissioner recalled the massive infrastructural projects which Governor Rochas Okorocha has extended to Owerri West including free education, modern school blocks and empowerment through the Youth Must Work Programme, promising that she will not relent in attracting more democracy dividends to the area.

Earlier, the leader of Umualum Nekede Progressive Forum, Mr. Richard Amaechi said they came on a solidarity and advocacy visit to appreciate the good work of Barr. Nnanna-Okoro and to thank her for facilitating the appointment of Mrs. Justina Nwamadi as the Community Liaison Officer.

On their request for a separate electoral ward and bridge to link Umualum and Umuoma communities, Barr. Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro promised to present them to the appropriate authorities for consideration.
